” This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often.
– The Great Reminder “
Happy October to you!
How has last month been for you? Now that the year is coming to an end, are there things that you wish to do but haven’t gotten down to it?
I had never thought I was a ‘deadline’ person, but a few weeks before my birthday past last month, I became more reflective and realized that time is passing quickly. Perhaps it is the prospect of ‘not getting the chance to do those things again’ that spurred me on.
Find what you love and do it often
I’ve gone back to playing the piano again and to taking Ballet classes. It requires quite a bit of sacrifice but it is rewarding and exhilarating at the same time for me. It may sound stupid but I find it easier to smile these days. I also like that I’m getting fitter, healthier, and I sleep better (often with a smile on my face).
Perhaps, like me, you may find that you’re not spending enough time doing something you love. It may be just something just small that you want to do because you enjoy immensely – like say, you love sitting in a park on a cold day, having a cup of hot coffee and people watching. Do it! Do it more often.
The Pleasure Principle
I learned this pleasure principle reading a rather silly sounding book, Mama Gena’s Owner’s and Operator’s Guide to Men. A friend had given it to me as a joke (or maybe she knew) a week before my wedding in San Francisco and I read it in one sitting.
She made me laugh quite a bit during the read that I eventually read her first and best selling book too: Mama Gena’s School of Womanly Arts : Using the Power of Pleasure to Have Your Way with the World.
The crux of her books is making pleasure your priority and that it can actually help you reach your goals. In the book she writes that by nature, us women tend to be overly self-sacrificial and they always put their husbands, children, jobs first. We don’t naturally take time to give to ourselves, make ourselves happy etc. There are some of us who feel a fine dress is not worth our money for ourselves but will spend twice that amount on others, or the children etc. As a result, we are unhappy (probably without knowing it) and not very attractive or nice to be around with.
While it is not your conventional book or has anything to do with elegance, I’ve always believed that happier women are prettier women. The energy you get by being happy, I believe is what we all need to take on the many challenging roles of being a woman.
The Great Reminder
I’ve also recently posted this picture in my blog, which I affectionately call it The Great Reminder, as you would have noticed the opening quote in this newsletter.
My favorite lines:
This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often.
What do you love?
Write it down now – somewhere. Start a new notes page on your phone. Write a blogpost about it. Write yourself an email. Write on Elegantwoman’s Facebook wall!
Then take action.
Schedule time to do one thing today!
Everything here on elegantwoman.org is about taking action, not just reading about it!
New-ish Blog Button
For those of you who read my last newsletter, you would know that elegantwoman.org now has a blog button. Add it to your blog if you like. Cut and paste the html code below

What’s Been Happening
I was able to polish a few pages on our Being a Lady section.
And I added a new page of
Kate Middleton as a role model of elegance (but she is not perfect so let’s just focus on her good points).
So, what’s next? There are many things I want to do with elegantwoman.org but I guess choosing what is next is always hard. I’ll just leave it to God and allow Him to lead me.
Also, I may be doing more offline work on the site in the next month or so (which means, reading, studying, interviewing etc etc) because we’re renovating our place this month. Yes, I’m writing to you with all that drilling!
Thank you once again for your support and patience, they are greatly appreciated! Have a blessed month and may you have an amazing rest of the year. 🙂
Warmest regards to you and your family,
P.s. Catch a glimpse of my thoughts on twitter (which may not be related to elegance) and Facebook. While I’m busy reading, researching, planning and writing pages on elegantwoman.org, I occasionally blog.
