If I could sum up the essence of elegantwoman.org, it would be found in this quote,
To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common – this is my symphony – William Ellery Channing
I thought about this long and hard on what to write to you in June.
Elegant Letters is not structured, or formal in any way. It is just something I would like to do to add a personal touch, since I can’t be there to reply to every email. 🙂
But I just can’t get over my amazement of the WISDOM in this quote and thought I’ll share it with all of you.
To break it down,
- To live content with small means
- To seek elegance rather than luxury
- Refinement rather than fashion
- To be worthy, not respectable
- Wealthy not rich
- To listen to the stars and the birds
- babes and sages with open heart
- To study hard
- To think quietly
- Act frankly
- Talk gently
- Await occasions
- Hurry never
- In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common
Wow.
Which ones of these do you have and which ones you are just learning to appreciate?
I’m on the … ‘To listen to the stars and birds, babes and sages with open heart’
… 🙂
Have an elegant June. xoxo
