The Plot

Audrey starred as Sabrina Fairchild, the young daughter of the Larrabee family's chauffeur, Thomas.

She has been in love with Larrabee's youngest son, David Larrabee all her life. David is a idle playboy and a flirt. He has never noticed Sabrina.

Heart-broken, she went off to Paris to culinary school. There she meets an older gentleman who takes her in like a daughter and introduces her to a world of sophistication.

Sabrina then returns to her home (and David & family's) all grown up, attractive and sophisticated. She was waiting at the train station for her father to pick her up but he was late. Driving by and on his way home, David notices her and offers to give her a ride, not recognizing her.

Later on he finds out and is drawn to her.

Linus, David's older brother who runs the family's business and empire fears that he would jeopardize his wedding with a very rich woman. If the wedding was cancelled, Linus will lose a big corporate deal with the bride's family.

As he interferes, Sabrina and Linus falls in love. They both ended up being confused, resulting in an awkward triangle. David sees this and in a moment of love and compassion for his brother, confronts him and challenges him to stand up for his feelings.

The ending contains Sabrina leaving for Paris on a boat, after Linus has told her to leave and never come back. In a board meeting, realizing his mistake, he manages to get on the boat, and they sail away together to Paris.

In this film Hepburn sings "La vie en rose" (French for "Life in Pink" and euphemism for seeing the world through rose-colored glasses), the signature song of French singer Édith Piaf - which had been highly popular in the English-speaking world as well as in France, since Piaf came out with it in 1946.

The occasion for Hepburn to sing it is at the episode of Sabrina's return from Paris, when she is far more assertive than before setting out, and her life does turn rosier.

She read Samuel Taylor's play "Sabrina Fair" which was brought to Broadway with Margaret Sullavan in the lead.

She asked her then agent, Lew Wasserman to persuade Paramount to buy the property as a vehicle for her.

He was actually a replacement for Cary Grant who pulled out at the last minute.

• It was through this movie she met one of her best friends, Hubert de Givenchy.

Edith Head was hired to work with the clothes 'Sabrina' wore before she heads off to Paris. Hubert de Givenchy was hired to dress Sabrina for her 'post-paris' wardrobe.
