Me in a red gown that I designed. It's my little secret hobby that I love designing elegant dresses. :)

Though I wrote this page earlier, it was in view of pageants but this may also apply to prom gowns, especially if you are intending on becoming prom queen.

After doing quite a bit of research on pageants, I have found that many pageant gowns look very dated. While many of these dresses are pretty, it does not seem to apply to the fashion-conscious viewer today.

For some reason, they always have to be in a certain colour, and heavily blinged (or sequined). The necklines are very over the top and everything about the dress is drama.

I've also read that the fashion in beauty pageants are slowly changing to become more modern, and more in tune with the fashion of today.

I prioritize elegance over fashion, style over designers so I'd like to present to you my view point of what makes a beautiful formal evening pageant gown but in no way I guarantee your success in choosing these gowns to be your gown.

A gown choice depends on your colour tones, your personality, your comfort. You want to own the dress. It should not outshine you but be sort of a frame, to present the best you to the judges and the rest of the world.

So here goes...I've personally handpicked and put together every single one of them.

I actually tried it on! But the colour did not suit my skin tone. It is a beautiful dress though.

The next one is by Roberto Cavalli.

The one to the extreme right is made by Valentino. I think certain shades of yellow look fantastic on certain skin tones.

For those who are still loving ball gowns, I had a sniff around and found dramatic modern ball gowns that still retained its classic style elements.

It is definitely more dramatic and perfect when you want to make a statement.

There is bountiful thought that goes into choosing and wearing a dress.

Understand what colours work for you. Get yourself colour charted, then have a thorough assessment of what necklines are the most flattering to wear for your body type.

Don't forget to consider your hair style and the height of shoes you'll be wearing when wearing a dress.
