That’s the secret of entertaining. You make your guests feel welcome and at home. If you do that honestly, the rest takes care of itself.

Hi all!

I know I’ve emphasized that elegantwoman.org is not an etiquette site and I’m not an etiquette writer….BUT, we must know some general etiquette because etiquette are thoughtful and orderly ways to go about doing things.

Since most of us socialize by breaking bread together, in other words, eating, dining, having a meal together, I thought we should brush up our table etiquette skills.

Here is a quick and fun test to gauge where you stand in terms of table etiquette.

Table Etiquette Test

1. Which is your bread plate? Left or right?

2. Where is your water goblet? Left or right?

3. What are some topics that are taboo for dinner conversation?

4. What is the difference between American table manners and continental table manners?

5. Is it okay to put used cutlery back on the table?

6. If you are serving red wine, white wine, champagne and water…how would you place these glasses on your table?

7. What are general guidelines of using the bathroom during dinner?

Remember, as much as knowing table etiquette can be useful, do not use it as a way of judging other people. There are no excuses for wrinkling up your nose in disgust if the person next to you is not quite aware of ‘protocol’!

That’s why I put this quote at the beginning of the page:

That’s the secret of entertaining. You make your guests feel welcome and at home. If you do that honestly, the rest takes care of itself.

What’s Been Happening

School started for me! (I’m teaching/lecturing/tutoring). I like my schedule and subjects much better for this term.

I’ve started writing my third book – which is based on research of Finishing schools in the past and their programs. I hope I’ll be able to release it soon!

Meanwhile, I hope all of you have a nice time. I’m sorry this newsletter is so short – I can’t manage writing a book, my job and everything else!

Take care of yourselves, God bless.

P.s. I tweet randomly about what’s happening in my life on twitter (which may not be related to elegance) and Facebook. While I’m busy reading, researching, planning and writing pages on elegantwoman.org, I occasionally blog.
