I know how you feel!
by: Lida

This is something I've been struggling with too as of late. It seems that my peers have quite different tastes than I do. It's fine to chat with the girls in my school about what happened on The Amazing Race last night, but if I ever wanted to discuss the classics or chat about history, I have to call my grandmother.

I love my friends, though, for who they are, and we do share the love of certain books and musicals. This is something I've heard since I was eight, but our differences make us special!

Until I meet a perfect elegant companion, I'm content with and thankful for this website. (And the Victorian Trading Co. Sometimes I feel like I was born in the wrong time, too!)

Jeanne and Sarah Jane, I really appreciate the feedback! Thank you; it is most helpful. I have a plan regarding my life thus so far, including studying and building a career, then I plan to move, after saving towards my dream house, overseas to experience different cultures and hopefully find a setting in which I feel I fit. I find the primary issue is my generation. My "peers" hold different values to my own and I always assumed that with age, they would "catch up". It seems I'm wrong. It's worrying. I don't enjoy the modern world. I feel I was born in the wrong time.
Sarah, that's awful :( I don't mean to pry, but is your son's school very nice? Unfortunately I witness even private school children carrying-on in public and it's appalling. Perhaps you could enroll him into a chess club or tennis lessons? bubt even then, I attended tennis lessons as a young child and there were rude people there, too. I'm trying to save my money and prepare a future in which I can be financially well-off, so I can afford to move into a nice neighbourhood with houses like this http://www.swanseacottages.com.au/bayviewcottagebig.jpg
and be able to relocate should I ever need to.
Have a lovely day!

Have you join elegantwoman.org's facebook? http://www.facebook.com/pages/Elegantwomanorg/121575944721

Also sometimes it's good to change your environment.

1) Join an art class, church

2) Meet new friends through travel

3) Start a new hobby in photography

4) Build a business and meet like-minded people.

5) Move to a new city even

6) If you get a new job, jump at it etc

Just my 0.02 cents

...I could not agree more!
by: Sarah Jane

...what a thought provoking article. It made me reply! I too have this same challenge. My peers and those of my little boy all seem so alien and I have to self depreciate to be accepted and then still feel alone! Is there no one at the school gate with manners, standards and rules for their children??? Does the word aperatif refer to dentures?? Where can we meet like minded folk ? This is a wonderful idea to communitcate on this website and I graciously thank you for setting it up and you for writing.
