Ticketed Events

How do you announce a ticketed Retirement Party/Birthday Party.

I understand the verdict is out as to whether or not there should be a cost to attend a Retirement Party/ Birthday Party.

In my particular case, the party for my father is my version of "The Kennedy Center Honors".

Do I send out invitations for the event stating the ticket price and purchase information or do I send out announcements with that information?
