Hmm I don't know enough to comment about your situation.

Remain positive from now till you meet him and don't dwell on what happened.

Dress your best, and when you meet him, say hello and smile lots and engage in light conversation.

If he is polite and mature, he will listen to you for a while, and you may casually tell him, 'oh, did I tell you my Facebook account was hacked a while ago, and it kept spamming everybody for friend's requests.'

Anyway, if all goes well, I'm sure if you send him a fb add request, he might accept. Otherwise, I think it's best to move on.
