This month's issue is about Elegant women and their money. What are some of the attitudes of elegant women towards money? Why is understanding wealth important to elegance? Read on.

An understanding of wealth gives the elegant woman a certain sort of poise.

Hi everyone,

Hope you have been well. I am enjoying a little more time lately and I have spent it mainly getting my reading back on track.

This month, I decided to do a little feature on a sensitive topic: money. But hopefully, after reading this newsletter, you wouldn't think it's so bad after all.

I guess it is like what Rebecca Johnson (quote above) says, "Money is the opposite of the weather. Nobody talks about it, but everybody does something about it."

So today, we'll be exploring elegant women and how they view, manage and use their money.

Now I know that not all elegant women have the same style of handling their finances, so I'm just going to speak of the kind of elegant woman that we all aspire to, the gracious, kind, generous, classy kind.

Elegant Women and their Money

What are elegant women like in terms of handling their finances? What is their outlook and attitude towards money? Are they frugal? What do they do with their money? These are some questions I wanted answers to:

General observations:

1. Avoid Taboo Questions

In our etiquette studies, we know that it is rude to ask sensitive details such as 'how much is your salary?'. In other cultures, it may be acceptable to ask how much you paid for your house or your car. Also, common conversation questions like, 'how much is your dress?' may or may not be acceptable...

Generally, we avoid this topic if we can. It is none of our business really.

2. Her Generosity Comes from Her Belief of Abundance

Generosity is a virtue and it is hard to imagine a truly elegant woman NOT being generous.

But you can only be generous if you have an abundance. Sometimes, we may have abundance but we have poor thoughts. We always think we don't have enough so that is why it is hard to be generous.

3. Poise and Confidence about Money

An elegant woman is expected to understand the language of 'money'. In some social circles, you are expected to understand and be comfortable with it. As much as we don't like it, money and elegant circles often come together, and you're expected to talk delicately about it.

One has to develop a certain sophistication when it comes to the 'dance' of talking about money.

While most elegant people avoid talking about money in a certain way (as we mentioned in our taboo section), it is not true that elegant folks NEVER talk about money and is not interested in it. Everyone is interested, and they are curious about how people have it, spend it...

If you know what they are talking about, you'll be more comfortable and not easily impressed.

4. Has SOME Money

Somehow, when we imagine an elegant woman...we imagine that she either has a lot of money, or some money at least. You almost can't imagine her poor.

Most of us, no matter how much we have, sometimes feel the struggle with money. We, as aspiring elegant women, need to conquer that! We need to get a grip of our finances. This will bring a sense of independence, quiet confidence and this self-reliance that will give us an elegant countenance and poise.

So because I want all of us to also become elegant in the area of our finances, I wrote a little more about this topic in my latest article An Elegant Attitude About Money. In it, I also recommended some steps one can take to develop that same elegance about money.

What's Been Happening

Not much, same old, same old. I've been reading a little into lives of the Japanese Geisha, ballet and lately...revising financial education.

Till my next newsletter! See you all on Facebook!

P.s. I tweet randomly about what's happening in my life on twitter (which may not be related to elegance) and Facebook. While I'm busy reading, researching, planning and writing pages on elegantwoman.org, I occasionally blog.
